Melanie Reid is a Foods and Textiles teacher at Seycove Secondary. She was born and raised in Deep Cove, North Vancouver. She completed her Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta where she was part of the Varsity field hockey team who won two CIS Silver medals. After completing her degrees in Alberta, Melanie returned to North Vancouver and pursued her passion for designing clothing and sharing what she created in the kitchen. She then completed her Diploma in Home Economics at the University of British Columbia in 2014. Melanie is currently completing her Masters of Education through the University of Calgary. She is driven to teach students life skills that they will continue to develop and use outside of the classroom. Her teaching is based on design learning, critical thinking and creativity.
When Melanie is not in the classroom at Seycove, you can find her on a field hockey pitch or exploring the backcountry that beautiful British Columbia has to offer.
Since 2013, Melanie has been a Teacher on Call working in various schools and districts in Greater Vancouver. Since gradation, she spent one year working and playing field hockey in London, England as well as traveling throughout Europe.
